COURSE FEATURES
Product Focused:
This course is focused towards actually producing TWO quality tracks throughout the duration of the course. In this sense, we put our already established skills to focused creative use, and whilst continuing to learn powerful new skills, students are working towards a refined and completed product. This includes direct in-person 1:1 feedback and coaching in class to help you immediately refine your music during the creation process.
Weekly check ins:
Each student has the option of sending through their work for coaching mid-week, which includes a 15 minute phone call to answer any questions and provide direct feedback.
Smaller, longer 3 hour classes:
This longer format facilitates more hands-on, deeper learning, with smaller classes capped at 10 participants also facilitating more 1:1 time between teacher and individual students.

COURSE CONTENT AND OUTLINE
This is a comprehensive course that covers production, performance, and sound design techniques in Ableton Live, including:
Advanced Sampling:
- Using Simpler and Sampler to trigger, layer and loop
- Isolating basslines through granular synthesis in Sampler
- Cutting and chopping in Simpler
- Creating entire beats / tracks via creative manipulation of samples
- Generating confidence in creating your own samples
Advanced Sound Design:
- Creating powerful subs and basses
- Complex layering and instrument rack design
- Multi-band synths
- Deep EQ, effects chains, and automation to create life in new instruments
- Deeper exploration of using ‘space’ in music
Instrument Racks:
- Macros + complex mapping
- Chain Selectors + creative instrument layering
- Design of your own unique instruments
- Sample selection devices (eg snare selectors)
- Slice to midi and creating drum racks from existing samples
Advanced Audio Effects:
- Elaborated use of Sends/Returns
- Further developing your own unique effects chains
- Exploring Reverb: A key to bringing music to life
- Multi-Band compression
- Parallell compression
Advanced clip editing/launching:
- Follow actions
- Legato mode
- Deeper clip envelope editing (creating effects progressions/mixer automation through clips)
- Dummy clips
Advanced Mixing:
- Advanced sidechain techniques
- Exploration of frequency masking and how to clear space for clean mixes
- Creative automation, demonstration of Max For Live devices
- Understanding mastering chains
Performance in Ableton Live:
- Preparing songs for live performance
- Configuring effects racks for live performance use
- Session/Arrangement hybrid performance
- MIDI instrument control and innovation
- How all of this can be very useful for composition and arrangement
Course requirements: Enthusiasm and excitement, your own computer with a working version of Ableton Live 11 Suite installed and running, a computer mouse, and a quality pair of headphones.
I will be providing the group with a robust sample pack for us to create with. Feel free to bring any MIDI controllers that you would like to play with or learn how to use.

These courses generally reach capacity, so it is recommended to book early and secure your place. Limited to 10 students.

Location for group venues may be subject to late notice change. Classes will always be held at various venues on rotation within the inner-north suburbs, so please be sure that you are able to reach the following areas: Fitzroy/Northcote/Preston/Brunswick/Coburg/Thornbury

Booking Terms:
- Course fees, deposits, and pre-payments are 100% NON refundable and non-transferable.
- Course tickets are transferable (re-sellable) to another user if the course has sold-out or upon agreement from SNED Music in writing for a $20.00 AUD administrative fee.
- Course tickets are only valid for the course dates specified in the course you have booked. Individual class transfers to future courses are considered on a case-by-case basis, and are only possible when discussed and confirmed in writing before the start date of the course you have booked.
- Depending on booking numbers, courses may be postponed by up to 14 days from the originally advertised date. In this case, the final two classes of 8-week courses will be rescheduled and will take place two weeks later than initially planned. Please check your calendar to see if this works for you before booking.
- In the case of a postponed course in which three or more participants cannot make the rescheduled dates, private in-person group classes will be arranged at the Coburg North studio, which you can attend at no additional cost. If you are unable to attend any rescheduled classes (for example overseas travel), you can attend private 1:1 in-person or online sessions to make up for the rescheduled classes, at no additional cost.
