Music Production Open Sessions
I will spend the day working on my own music in the studio and talking through what I am doing as I go. You will witness some full power music production at a reasonably high level… And it will hopefully even sound good! 😂
You can sit in, ask questions, see how decisions are made, egg me on, and learn from a full production session rather than a tutorial or planned-out lesson. There will be improvisation, problem solving, all manner of audio engineering and general complex production techniques going down on the day.
This is a chance to see the less visible part of music production: rapidly choosing what to do next, following interesting rabbit holes, getting horribly stuck – followed by changing direction instantly – and using the mantra ‘make decisions and move on’ often enough to continue ruthlessly building momentum when a track is still taking shape.
It will mostly be me working at full-speed whilst also maniacally verbalising everything that is happening – hopefully worth the entertainment value at the very least.
Your presence helps me lock into the session and put time into my own music. In return, you get a free day of practical production education, community, and a chance to reconnect with other Sned Music students.
The event is planned as a relaxed open day, not a formal class or private lesson. There will be two 2-hour sessions with a 30 min break in between, and some hang out/track feedback time for participants at the end.Â
Previous students will be prioritised, and there will be time to meet other producers, talk shop, and encourage one another.

What you might see and learn:
The exact session will depend on the track and the decisions that come up on the day, but it can include:
- Turning a rough idea into a workable production session
- Choosing sounds, layers and references that point the music in the right direction
- Building arrangement, movement, transitions and energy
- How to hyperfocus on a single buildup or riser for a full hour until it becomes absolutely epic
- Recording, editing, sampling, resampling and some hopefully quite interesting sound design
- The absolute chaos of extreme multi-layer automation at break-neck pace
- Using Ableton Live devices, effects, instruments, MIDI and controllers creatively
- Making practical mixing decisions while the track is being developed
- Deciding when to keep exploring and when to break free and move forward
- Reviewing selected attendee tracks through the studio monitors where time allows
- Witnessing the true speed at which a mouse can be clicked and music can be produced
- Finally getting an answer to that age old question… Does it sound good, or does it sound shit?
What to bring:
- Your own laptop with Ableton Live installed if you want to follow along or work on your own material. Not necessary tho!
- A short track, loop or project idea if you would like the opportunity to receive feedback. There will only be limited time for this! Maybe 3-4 tracks across the group
- Questions about production, arrangement, sound selection, mixing or workflow – which I will most likely be able to demonstrate for you in real time.Â

COST: Free, with registration required.
CAPACITY: The event is limited to around 10 people, with previous Sned Music students prioritised. There will be three seats reserved for the general public or those interested in an introduction to music production.

- Registration is free, but booking in advance is essential because places are limited.
- Please only register if you expect to attend. Let us know as soon as possible if you can no longer make it so the place can be offered to someone else.
- This is a shared open studio day, not a private lesson. Individual track feedback is subject to time and will not be available to every attendee.
- The event is intended for producers with some existing familiarity with music production. It is especially suited to current or previous Sned Music students.
