  • Dry parts, plus versions with amp or effects if they suit the song
  • Parts played on electric bass, upright bass, guitar, keys or drums

Idea to finished track

Production andarrangement

Song production takes your idea to a finished track. It can start from a voice memo, a demo, a Live Set, or a song you play on guitar or piano. John builds the arrangement, plays or programs the parts, chooses the sounds, then mixes and masters it.

You hear the track as it develops and give notes along the way.

Good for

  • Singer-songwriters with songs but no production
  • Artists with demos that need to sound finished
  • Producers stuck at the arrangement stage
  • Songs that need a full band sound: bass, guitar, keys and drums
  • Electronic tracks that need real instruments on top
  • Artists who want to be involved in every step

What you send

  • A voice memo, demo or Live Set
  • Lyrics and chords, if you have them
  • Two or three reference tracks you like the sound of
  • Notes on the feel you are after and songs you love
  • Any deadline or release date

What you get

  • A finished track, mixed and mastered
  • The stems
  • Two rounds of changes
  • Real instruments played by John where the song needs them
  • Updates to listen to as the track develops
  • The Live Set, if you work in Ableton Live
  • Instrumental and a cappella versions, as an option

Prices

  • Song production: from $550 a song, including mix and master
  • Arrangement only: $65 an hour

Hourly work can have a cap. Tell John the most hours you want to spend, and he checks with you before going past it.
